Split a day into routes

With several drivers you don’t have to divide the day by hand. Load all the stops into one route, click Split into routes, tick the drivers, and Route Planner Teams makes balanced routes from your depot — each in its best order, with your delivery windows — and sends every route to its driver right away. Available on the packages for 10 and 15 team members.

What splitting takes into account

The split uses the settings of the route you are building — see Route settings:

  • the Start — depot and the Start time: every route starts there, at that time;
  • Round trip: every route returns to the start, or ends at its last stop;
  • Minutes per stop and each stop’s own minutes;
  • delivery windows of the stops: stops that would miss their window are marked late, as usual;
  • Group parcels: parcels for one address stay together in one route.

Routes are balanced by the number of addresses: each gets about the same share. Set Max stops per route to cap the size of a route — the number of routes times the cap must fit all the stops.

Split the day

  1. Create a route for the day and add all the stops — from a file, a pasted list, the search or Inbox. Fix the addresses that were not found; see Fix addresses.
  2. Click Split into routes under the main button.
  3. Tick the drivers who take part — by default, all active drivers (2 to 10) — and, if you like, set Max stops per route. Click Split into N routes.
  4. Wait for the result: the route you were building is replaced by one route per driver, named Route 1, Route 2, …, each assigned and sent to its driver with a notification, like a normal assignment. Routes opens with the new day — each route in its driver’s colour on the map, with its number of stops, distance and duration in the list.
Split a day into routes
Load all the stops of the day, tick the drivers, and get balanced routes sent to each of them.

One split counts as one route optimization per route produced (for example 4 routes = 4 optimizations). The stops were already counted when you added them; the split does not count them again.

After splitting

  • Change a driver — open the route’s menu and choose another driver; see Assign a driver and follow the day.
  • Move a stop — open the stop in the route builder and choose Move to route…, then pick another route of the day. Both routes are re-optimized; a moved stop is not counted again.
  • Edit as usual — add, remove or reorder stops in any route and re-optimize it; changes reach the driver’s app right away.

On the package for 5 team members the button opens a note: automatic splitting is included in the packages for 10 and 15 members. You can still plan one route per driver by area or postcode.
