Guide 3
Fix addresses that need attention
When you paste a list or upload a file, every address is looked up on the map. Most are found straight away. The few that can't be placed with confidence are marked in red at the top of the stop list, so you can fix them before you optimize.
What the marks mean
- Check the address — tap to fix
- An address was found, but it may not be the right one: for example, there's no house number, only the street or the area was found, or it's far from the other stops.
- Not found — tap to fix
- Nothing matched this address. Usually there's a typo, or the town or postcode is missing.
- Search failed — tap to retry
- The lookup didn't finish, for example because of the connection. Search all again under the list repeats it for every such address.
A marked address isn't part of the route until you fix it: the line under the list says how many are left out. You can still optimize the other stops.
Fix an address
- Click the marked stop. The Fix address window opens with the address as it was in your list.
- Correct the text, or add the town or postcode. Suggestions with the full address appear as you type.
- Pick the right suggestion. The pin on the map moves to the new place — check it and click Save. The stop takes its place in the route.
If the found address is right after all, check the pin on the map and click Save to keep it. If the stop shouldn't be in the route, click Remove stop.
Fewer addresses to fix next time
- Keep the house number, street, postcode and town in the address, in the order your country writes them.
- Put flat numbers, floors and door codes into a notes column, not into the address.
- If your file has latitude and longitude columns, the addresses aren't looked up at all.
- A business name alone works in search, but a full address is safer in a list.
